Welcome to our new families this fall!
We know it takes a while to get up to speed on all we offer and the unique way we approach music lessons. Please feel free to ask questions at any time!
Here are a few tips based on the most common questions we receive from our newest families (For our families that have been here for years: we have updates if you scroll about half-way down!):
Makeups: We are extremely diligent when it comes to giving makeups (some studios don’t give them at all if a lesson is missed). If your child is in a class, please email me and I will give you other class times which your child can attend in the next couple of weeks in order to keep up with the class. If your child is a private student, you can email me or call the front desk to see what times are available with one of our teachers. We try to get them in with the same teacher if possible.
We do not give a credit for missed lessons on the unless the missed lesson was due to the absence of the teacher. In that instance you get a choice between a credit or a makeup.
Discounts: We offer family discounts (as long as at least one member is in a class), discounts as a reward for staying through the summer (for the classes), a Home School Discount, and discounts for paying a semester or year in advance. Don’t forget about our referral discount! If you refer someone to us you will receive one free lesson taken off your next invoice. The new student needs to mention your name when they sign up, but please remind us the following month if you do not see that it’s been deducted from your invoice. There is sometimes a “lag-time” from the time a new person signs up and we need to wait until they actually start for a month.
Checking in: Each family has a file at the front desk. Please be sure to check with the receptionist to see if there is anything in your file. Common items will be receipts and signature sheets for payments made, invoices, music that was left behind, newsletters, etc.
Music Money: We reward our students when they practice as well as during the lessons with Music Money. It is theirs to keep or spend at our “music store” filled with fun (new) items! This is an incentive that has really helped over the years in regard to motivating them to practice and to do well! The kids really love the system and we really love inspiring them with it! In the classes, we use it during the games that we play…mostly as a means of making sure they understand and are able to play their assignment for the next week. In the private lessons, they pretty much know what we thought of their practicing from the previous week by how much we give them! We suggest getting them a wallet or just a simple zip-lock baggie and make sure their name is on it so that we can return it to them if they should leave it here. Many of them become very good savers as they try to save for special, expensive items!
Shows: We have numerous recitals and shows throughout the year. Our next big event is our MusicThon on Sunday, September 29, 2013 in our parking lot. It is a fundraiser for our non-profit organization, Music Makers…for Life Foundation. We are trying to help students that need lessons, who, due to hardship with this economy, can not afford them. We started it last year and are awaiting a response from the IRS on the status of our 501(c)3 application. We’ve raised only enough at this time to cover costs and to help one person (so far). The MusicThon will feature our 6 Teen Rock Bands, Parents of Students, as well as teachers and any student that would like to perform. We will have vendors, games, and (this is in the works) a bouncy house. The MusicThon will be from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you would like to volunteer to help out, please email me asap.
October 5, 2013: Our bands are performing at yet another great cause: The Hooved Animal Foundation in Woodstock. Watch for more details!
December 7, 2013: Our students will perform at the Cary Public Library all day long!
I’m sorry there is not yet a date set for our 4 Christmas Shows. I’m attempting to get into the Cosman Theater for this year’s performances since everyone loved that venue at our Spring Recitals a few months ago. I’ll let you know as soon as that is pinned down!
NEW Vocal Workshop times: We are starting our next 8 week session of Vocal Workshops (the class where your kids have a recorded CD made) this coming Saturday, September 7, 2013. One of the classes will be 10:45 – 12:00 noon, and another one from 1:00 pm – 2:15 pm.
NEW Live Stream TV Show: We piloted this class over the summer and will be continuing it as an ongoing class. The show will air one time a month, the last Friday of the month at 5:00. Students involved in that month’s show will come to 3 Friday “classes/rehearsals” previous to the show date, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. They will create, write, and rehearse the show on those three days as well as the date the show airs. The cost for current Music Makers Students is $80 for the month. It is $100.00 for the month for Non-Music Makers students. All of our students are invited to take part in the show free of charge, by signing up to perform one of the pieces they have been working on with their teacher. Our first show will air October 25, 2013. Please email or call us to sign up!

Congratulations to Jacob Villec who has been promoted to General Manager. He has been invaluable as our IT guy and has wonderful problem-solving skills.

Welcome to Sam Fogel, who is working at the reception desk. Please be patient as she learns this difficult job!
We must sadly say goodbye to Carolyn Jummatti, who has been a receptionist here for over a year (following her sister, Katie’s footsteps who we also greatly miss!) Carolyn is working on her degree in Hospitality and will be working at the Willis Tower Sky Deck.
We also had to say goodbye this summer to Heather Weber who was a receptionist and bookkeeper for us for a year. Heather is still around, thankfully, as a proud mom of one of our terrific piano students, Ciarra. Heather continues to take piano lessons herself and is a great example to her daughter of the benefits of practicing!
